I Don’t Want to Host My Husband’s Family…

I Don’t Want to Host My Husband’s Family on the Weekend, Now He’s Mad at Me.

The tension with my husband, Tony, is unbearable right now, and I don’t know what to do next.

It all started when Tony decided to invite his huge family-18 people in total-to our house for a 3-day Christmas celebration. He didn’t tell me first and simply assumed that I wouldn’t mind.

But I do! Especially now that I have a newborn and work extra shifts as an accountant. Tony, on the other hand, works part-time and has a much more carefree attitude toward life.

In previous years, we didn’t have this problem, and we used to spend the holidays at my in-laws’ place. But since earlier this year, we bought a new big house, Tony thinks that it would be our responsibility to host the entire family since our new large space is way more convenient than his parents’ much smaller apartment.

When I learned about the invitation, I confronted him, expressing shock and concern about my existing commitments. He vehemently refused, leaving me with no other option but to send a text on the family WhatsApp group chat canceling the event.

After he discovered my actions, he said I made him look small and weak and berated me for insulting him and his family, especially his mother, who had apparently called him separately and complained about my rude behavior.

He declared, “Well, now that you have disrespected my mother in front of the larger family, the least you can do is go visit her. I want you to say sorry face to face.”

To add to the complexity, he wants us to host New Year’s Eve at our place as a way to “make up” for my actions.

I firmly declined, asserting my unwillingness to say sorry or host any event. The issue persists, especially as the whole family is turning more and more against me. My sister-in-law even canceled our yearly get-together for holiday shopping at the mall, which has been our tradition for years now.
