It’s hearty, flavorful, and perfect for any occasion. Let’s dive into how to make this delightful dish that will have everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound of ground beef or pork (or a mix of both)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup of cooked rice
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces)
  • 1 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

How to Make Cabbage Filled with Meat:

Prepare the Cabbage:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core of the cabbage with a sharp knife.
  • Gently place the cabbage head into the boiling water and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the outer leaves are soft enough to remove.
  • Remove the cabbage from the water and carefully peel off the softened outer leaves. Set them aside to cool.

Make the Filling:

In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, cooked rice, beaten egg, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Fill the Cabbage Leaves:

  • Take one cabbage leaf and place a generous spoonful of the meat mixture in the center.
  • Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and then roll it up tightly from the stem end to the top.
  • Repeat this process with the remaining leaves and filling.

Cook the Filled Cabbage:

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the filled cabbage rolls, seam side down, to the pot.
  • Pour the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls. Add a bit of water if necessary to ensure the rolls are mostly covered with liquid.
  • Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for about 45 minutes to an hour until the meat is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Carefully remove the cabbage rolls from the pot and place them on a serving platter.
  • Spoon some of the tomato sauce from the pot over the top.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color and flavor.

Why You’ll Love This Dish:

  • Flavorful and Satisfying: The combination of tender cabbage and savory meat filling creates a deliciously satisfying meal.
